And lastly…
Thanks for feeding into my love of board games ❤
I didnt realise I was in so deep😂
We haven't really gone heavier with games, first games we got into tended to last around 90-120 mins introduced to the hobby via my husband. But then found games which lasted around 45 mins, an hour such as watergate, azul, beer and bread, these fit better into out lifestyle, as we can get them played.
I don't understand. Kutna Hora's contents look ugly af
The BGG Family list is a good place to start for new gamers.
With regards to costs in Kutná Hora, the maximum price for wood is 6, and the most expensive building needs 12 wood, making the most you need to pay 72 coins.
I know you may be using hyperbole to make a point, but if you're not, then something is wrong.
All of us here are in way deep, I agree. My game group knows y'all(and Dice Tower, BGG, etc) exist, or at least have heard of, because of me. So true 🤙
When you said those on BGG are not average, you are correct, "Thank God, I am not average!" Haha
P.S. If you didn't get the quote I am sure you would enjoy the song which also has the line "comin in hot, just like a fajita" too.
Please play Imperium Horizons!
res arcana is great! and yeah, the dragons are a bait most of the time. To me the most interesting part of the game is when do you actually play a card vs when do you trash it for resources. Heck some times you just trash everything to rush a place of power.
Happy Mardi Gras from New Orleans 🎉
Ditto on negotiation games, the other mechanic I don’t care for is blind bidding. Both require players to assign very arbitrary value on various game aspects and often people can screw with you just because they can, even if it doesn’t necessarily benefit them.
1:13:20 I have to know, what is the origin of the "EOOOOO"? 😆
I'd like to peek at the alternate reality where Stonemaier didn't put the effort in to get statistics from first their audience and than BGG, literally hire someone to help make this information actionable and then make adjustments but Terra Mystica/Gaia Project did. I feel like feuerland would be widely lauded for doing so but somehow it's seen as a negative coming from SM.
do you like Bohnanza? since its part negotiation?
i hate negotiation games as well but really like Bohnanza
"I respect the game. I understand why people love it…I just never will."
That's how I feel about 95% of the popular engine-building, resource management euros in today's hobby! 😉
theme can be abstract, historical etc, but components have to be collectible on display… don’t want minis, but the game itself should be easy on the eyes as I spend hours on it 😅 game rules can always be house ruled. my group is not competitive and won’t bother arguing over rule variants anyway 😊
BGG is like a big library 📚 it takes time to find your favourite subjects and aisles. I rarely pick librarians’ picks of the week / new release rack… board gaming is still a complex hobby to fine tune categorize… books have been set up with ISBN and library Call#. Movies have been studied in various genres. Hopefully as time goes by the makers and consumers can build mutual understanding about what to expect per genre, weight etc.?
good luck with your move! wrap the bookshelves with tarp put on dolly and roll? 😅
casual / newbies use top 1000- and filters by weight, category/ theme/ designers
coral f terrill checking in
would love to see you guys play some age of steam
Tapestry was too ambitious and required an embarassing amount of errata and expansions. I played 25 games of my copy, most of them solo, broke 300 points one time, and i just love/hate it. I house rule numerous things, and i have found zero games by SM since Wingspan worth owning.
Ttiiiiiime staaaaaamps.
Y’all should do a collab with angry Joe show! AJ has the whole blood bowl game and loves that game! He is also very big into board games and has a board game day every Wednesday!
I think it would be great if BGG had a sidebar similar to the hotness on the main dashboard page that had the top rated games in the 3 popular categories light, medium and heavy categories (rename to what makes most sense in hobby) along with a link that would send you to the landing page for each of those categories. The formula for determining if a game is light, medium or heavy (complexity, game length, set up time, # of components, publisher input, board game reviewers input, consumers input, etc…) would be debated similar to the top 100, but at least it is something that the hobby could relate and reference. I know there is a family and strategy ranking categories, but what does that even mean? Is there a definition of it on BGG? Scout, Clank Catacombs and Everdell are all in the top 15 of the "Family" list…I would play Scout with my family and that is it.
Personally I would pay more attention to the light and medium category lists, and not so much to the overall top 100. Content creators would be on the same page for these classifications and help synergize games into certain categories to help the average consumer when purchasing games for themselves or gifting, whether they agree or not with where a game lands. There are just too many games to keep tabs on, and I think having some industry standard top rated lists would help not only consumers but also publishers market their games.
Anyone else watch this at 2X?
Well done. I had a voidfall January. Mix in a lot of capstone games. Boonlake, age of innovation, a few others. All great
But did you try the solo of Vale of Eternity? 😉
Super nerd status confirmed. Woot. I didn't play much last month, but I'm absolutely loving The White Castle right now. I'm eagerly awaiting Agemonia which should be delivering in the next few weeks. Thanks for the stream!
Kutna Hora is atop my recent acquisitions. Absolutely love that game.
