After waiting a year for FF16 to release on PC, and doing my best to avoid spoilers online I finally managed to get my hands on FF16.
After finishing in around 50 hours I wound up being massively disappointed as both a long time fan of the franchise & a fan of JRPG’s.

I just want to put this here for people who aren't going to watch the whole video, and to correct 1 minor mistake.
I certainly don't think this game is bad, but it's a game that doesn't respect the player's time. It took me personally about 50% of the way through the game to start enjoying the combat, (Titan)
and I didn't start feeling the story again after the prologue until (Bahamut) which is basically the final 30% of the game!
If it takes 3/4 of the game to finally start feeling fun, then that is a major issue. The game has high highs, and really low lows but I found the negatives to drastically drag down the enjoyment of everything else.
Also at 5:37 I made a bit of a mistake when talking about the air combos. By using your charged attack in mid air, you DO have a consistent way to send enemies airborne. I just didn't notice this until after the Bahamut fight which is a mistake on my part, although I feel like for something as important as that the game should have presented it during the initial combat tutorial. Regardless though I still don't really like how this feels for a couple reasons.
1. You have to charge it for a couple seconds making it feel fairly weird to pull off in the middle of a magic burst combo.
2. You have to jump before you can use it. Compare this to DMC where all you have to do is press the attack button, and hold back on your D Pad. Again highlighting why directional inputs would be amazing.
But ya, I just wanted to clear that up before someone else does, and I did start to use it quite often. It's certainly not enough to change any overall opinions though.
Soundtrack is 10/10
Bad take. Final Fantasy 16 is the best game in the franchise since the PSOne era. All you crybaby stans keep whining about how it's a hack n slash now. Grow tf up 🙄
The action combat certainly can work but the developers I guess thought it would be too hard for people to juggle everything. Status effects, elemental weaknesses and having a different weapon with each Eikon power would have gone a long way to make the one character gameplay feel a ton better.
Yeah I absolutely hated this game and it’s now my least favorite in the franchise. I actually liked it until act 2 started. At that point the story, combat, characters, rpg elements just fell flat. And wow did those eikon battles drag on forever. This is like a 4 out of 10 for me. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a refund on a FF game but I definitely felt cheated out of $70 on this one 😂 They really need to go back to what made them great as far as being RPGs go. Go back to me atb/turn based combat. I would love to see the paradigm system again as that was one of my favorite battle systems.
This game's Combat feels like a Combobased Combatsystem without Combo's tbh. And i think it says alot that the Combat is the best Part of the game. I was pretty disappointed as a longtime FF Fan. But i have to say ff7 Rebirth was a let down aswell with the Ubisoft Openworld that it offers.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game as a long time fan of the franchise (since the gba and tactics ps1 game). I also enjoyed ff15 which people also shat on and im not sure why. I guess some people are hard to please.
The music harms the video as it became a distraction.
I really liked this game tho 🥲It's what got me buying all other FF games and playing them back to back. I just beat FF VIII Remastered.
Enjoyable review, you gave a solid amount of detail for every section to give a pretty good overview. Unfortunately with the amount of actual gameplay this was forced to be a story heavy review with how much you played it, but the little tag for Clive's mom was funny.
A couple minor things, the first minute sounded very monotone and at 10:00 theres a little gap with no music which is a bit jarring when music is playing most of the review.
you so right FF16 waste your time unlike in FF7 Rebirth you climb towers, scan for rocks, the world is so formulaic and repetitive…
