It’s been just over a month since Apple released the iPad mini 7, refreshing its smallest tablet with a new Apple Intelligence-capable A17 Pro chip. I have been using the iPad mini 7 as a replacement for the iPad Pro for the last several weeks, and wanted to share some thoughts on Apple’s latest iPad.

I took mine back. Jelly scrolling in portrait mode and far too much motion blur on all Apple Store samples. This was clearly visible to me on this old 60hz display.
Apps and font sizes too small. The speakers and mics are way inferior than an Air M2 or pro. It’s overpriced compared to Air M2, especially with cellular. Just connect with an iPhone!
The screen is too small to use professionally with pencil and an expensive duo even with education discounts. 11 in iPad is min.
Mini is good as an overpriced colour Kindle.
An M4 11 in 256gb is a much better long term value proposition and doubles as a second screen to partner with aMacBook Pro.
Mini is really for pilots, waiting staff and indulgent parents for under 11s to read and play games on – niche product. If it had pro motion, a better screen, smaller bezels and if possible landscape camera for videos, I’d consider one.
An iPhone pro Max in landscape is nearly as big for viewing videos and film and far, far brighter. Admittedly no pencil but iPad Pros are for that.
I was working overseas recently and only took an iPad Pro 11 with keyboard, pencil and my iPhone as I needed to travel very light (under seat bag for flight, then lots of trains and buses). It did everything I needed professionally from writing, emails, viewing materials and it was great for editing photos and videos taken on 15 pro max (great camera on that).
Not for me…in a professional setting anyway.
I travel with iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPad mini gen 6 and 14" M1 Pro MBP and love my iPad mini gen
Just got one for my wife for media consumption etc when traveling. It’s a solid little tablet for the right use cases.
I have the 13" M4 Pro iPad. Love it. But I think I am still going to grab a iPad mini base model just to take with me everywhere. The mini is such a great iPad.
2005 Haruki Murakami black LV Speedy 30, near mint, from a pawn shop in the bay authenticated (but girl, I knew it from the pictures). I snagged it for $1000 while all the others were gone!! I hope itâ s not haunted!! Haha!! Love your channel!! â ¦Um, I bought a Dooney Florentine Nano Satchel and a medium Amelia Florentine from kislux â ¦but wait, Kurt Geiger Kensington, Chanel 19 denimâ ¦and a Hermes Officier Birkin 30, gold togo with double, yellow swift stripe/left front and yellow interior/palladium. Look at this, so chic!!!
What’s the game demo in the video?
I am doing exactly the same change for the same reasons right now
Is there a particular advantage to paying for the cellular version of the mini if you always have your iPhone 16PM that I can hotspot to the Mini. Are there any drawbacks to this method? Granted I don’t take it to a lot of places that don’t have WiFi to begin with, just curious what the biggest advantage of the cellular version was. When i had it on the prior iPads it was a feature I never ended up using no matter the situation. Anyone feel the same?
i think Apple should make the Mini compatible with their regular iPad keyboard through the use of some kind of 'adapter'; like a frame that holds the Mini to make it close at the same size as the full size keyboard attachment. and maybe do something with the extra space, like make it an extra external battery to prolong power life.
Good video, why would you recommend the cellular version if you can just hotspot from your phone?
Form factor if the Mini is great but 60 Hz is painful to me. That’s a rough trade off that we shouldn’t have to make in 2024
I have the mini 6. The moment they reduce the chunky bezels and give it an M chip, it will become so OP.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
I would have upgraded my 2020 late model to the new one. But no 120hz display killed that purchase…
I’ve had every Mini since its inception in 2012 for the very reason you outlined, which is the same reason I’ve had every iPad and iPad Pro since their inceptions in and 2010 and 2015. The Mini isn’t meant to replace the larger size iPads as a same level productivity tool. For me it’s a light travel stay up to date tool. I will be checking out that keyboard though.
I also switched from 13" ipad pro m4 to ipad mini 7 and poco pad for my 1tb sd card. Never been happier.
Can’t wait to see the iPhone 17 Pro Maximum the size of a iPad mini ahaha
These AI voices are horrible! plz stop doing this. I hate it when an AI voice annoys me in German, cannot stand it! But in the second I wanted to close your video, I saw I could switch to default English and could here a human voice. Plz stop it! Speak German or keep it in English. AI voices are extremely offensive speaking German. Sounds horrible!
Got mine 3 weeks ago and it’s the best iPad I’ve ever used. I can edit video, audio etc. Watch content and read. As for the jelly scrolling I’ve not noticed it and the screen looks fine to me at 60hz
Ha, considering doing the same and thought I'd search YouTube. amazing you've posted a video just a few hours ago with a review 🙂 🙂
You mentioned ray-tracing. I know Apple said their chips can do it now, but are there any games on iPad that really use this feature?
Stuck between this and the iPad Air m2 11inch only a $50 difference
Love the Mini 7, just wish they did a magic keyboard and made it 1TB
I've used the standard (11-inch-ish) sized iPads since Gen 1 and I recently traded in my iPad Air 4 for the mini 17Pro. I found the iPad Air with the magic Keyboard just too big and heavy to lug around. I bought a used iPad Mini 4 just to test out the size and loved it, so I waited for the upgrade to the Mini 17Pro. For my use case it's the best value. Great for books, magazines (Apple News), movies, notes and even writing with a full sized bluetooth keyboard. (I use the same model keyboard as I do with my Mac so the touch is familiar). I actually use the camera on iPad and for some reason there is no flash on the iPad Air but there is on the mini. So that's a bonus. My only complaint is this: this shold be an iPhone Ultra and not an iPad Mini. Put the Phone and Apple Watch apps on this device and I wouldn't need an iPhone. I use the Apple Watch for my phone and music player and the iPad for everything else.
I love the mini I'm blind so for me it's not a real advantage having the larger screen. Agree for travel it is the best.
I switched to using an iPad mini years ago, I’ve had the original, 3rd, 6th and now 7th generations.
Never noticed jelly scrolling.
Traded in my iPad 10 gen for the mini and love it. I’ve always wanted a mini but never made the jump till now. If I need more than what the mini can do I have my Mac air.
I agree with all your comments about the iPad mini 7. I have one and I also have an iPad Air 6 (13 inch) as a "desktop" computer.
Can I suggest a future video? I, like many others, am trying to ditch my Mac and go solely iOS. The only thing holding me back is file/data backup. Other than iCloud, iOS does not seem to have any viable backup options. If there are then this would make an interesting MacRumors video.
Thanks for all your great content!
pretty cool, but already have an iPad Air and not sure what to do with a 2nd iPad.
Which keyboard is it exactly? Looks perfect☺️
Recently I’ve been going smaller on everything. MacBook Pro 15 to MBA. iPhone 15 pro max to regular 16. And iPad Air to iPad mini.
I had the first gen Mini. I really liked it. The problem was my age when I got it. I was at that age where my eyes were starting to go so the smaller screen made it really hard for me to use it. I had to go back to a larger iPad. These days I rock the 11 inch M2 iPad Pro although I can see the need for a 13 inch in the future because the larger screen will be easier on the eyes but the 11 inch M2 iPad Pro is a REALLY powerful device.
4:00 Assuming you also have your iPhone (or similar smartphone) with you, why not tether your iPad mini to its 5G? I couldn't justify having 2 devices with built-in wireless.
Anyone know what Calendar widget that's on 5:42? This is NOT the iOS Calendar app
6:06 was so real like WHO IS DOING THAT 😭
The colors look horrible and I'm having second thoughts on returning it. I think my eyes are acclimated to OLED's color accuracy & vibrancy
Si hubiese tenido la pantalla OLED y el pro-motion me lo hubiese comprado.
Typical iPad mini advertisement…
