This was an awful remake. The fact so many people were brought in to write and re-write, direct and re-direct is testament. Time doesn't heal all wounds and it certainly doesn't make bad remakes better. This film was a mess.

This movie was terrible two decades ago and its still terrible today.
When The Invasion first hit theaters upon its release in the mid aughts, the film didn't get a lot of love from critics nor audiences. I thought that unfortunate. I found the film curious, basically a revisionist take that offered a very different political/social view on the survival of humanity than the prior remakes of the film. Whatever the film's faults, I think the critics should have worked a bit harder to grasp how this version, somewhat more cynical and troubling, differed from its earlier incarnations. This is a remake that seems revealing about its historical moment. Whether you agree or not, it has something to say. The critics weren't listening.
