I would never get the nostalgia of wanting a game looking totally retro.
To be inspired by lost mechanichs, stories, physics, etc it's sthg. but it's nerdism to the max to actually want a game look like sthg from the 90's.
I remember being a kid frustrated to look at every ATARI game drawings and later playing some pixel blocks in motion stuff.

At the end of day the I'm not advocating for everything to look "real", far from it, I love stylish cartoonish or any other alternative look to realism, but doing sthg. that is exactly the same as what in those days was cutting edge tech TRYING TO LOOK REAL, ain't precisly that laudable, it's closer to "fan service" in movies than actually being stylish or using nowadays tools to create sthg new based on sthg old.
