Utterly Confusing Access Reviews For Dragon Age The Veilguard…

My Discord:

The access reviews are in and whilst many of them are predictable…some have been shocking and not in a positive sense. What we have seen is concerning but ultimately we will have to wait for the normal folk to offer their reviews to get a sense of the game…

  1. This is the advice i give to people. The game will be here today, tomorrow and 5 years from now, if a review determines how you spend your money, wait till its cheap and then buy it, that way, if its good based on your taste, you lose nothing. If its bad, it didnt break your pocket. At the end of the day, a review cant really bring to light everything. You can buy this can and glitches the hell out while other people get a different experience. Keep in mind reviews have pc with different specs and have different taste. I trust mortisimal. The works hard to do everything in the game. Hes not a play for 2 hours then share an opinion kind of guy.

  2. "…up until [the last 2 hours] it is a slog." DAI Hinterlands war flashbacks 😑well, all of DAI really, which is why I never finished it.

  3. I had a review vid recc'd to me by a channel I didn't follow (I do now) and I feel like this guy really cut to the heart of what this game is. Here's the bit that stuck with me:

"My prediction is that there are going to be two games that Veilguard will constantly be compared to, one in terms of gameplay and the other for tone. On the gameplay side of things… Veilguard’s combat and exploration are full-blown God of War 2018 worship. This new Dragon Age is all about the action: building up a rage meter to release an ultimate, getting your perfect parries in, shield throws, talismans that activate special abilities, plenty of pots to break and chests to open. You get it. Point is, somebody really liked God of War 2018 and said “why don’t we just do that, and be done with it”… The other comparison I think people will constantly make, this time in terms of the game’s tone, is to that Guardians of the Galaxy game from a few years ago."

I didn't play the GOTG game, but I can see where the comparison comes in. "Light-hearted action" was the vid's (quite generous imo) summary of the game, while also making the point that everything that made DA stand out has been cut. Previous game choices don't matter and the dialogue feels like it was written by an AI trained on Whedonspeak with no regard for context.

  4. Environment artists doing their best to carry the games. I may play it, for the environment, maybe the rest of the game, isn't as bad.

  5. I’m puzzled by all these reviews, you got a review that’s very positive and a review that’s really negative. I think this all a political bull shit, and quite honestly if you like the look of it, then get it, if you don’t then don’t buy it.

  6. i have honestly lost faith in bioware for while now. larian and owlcat are deff fantastic however and i been enjoying alot of there games lately namely divinity original sin 2 and baldurs gate 3 for larian and pathfinder wrath of the righteous and warhammer 40k rogue trader for owlcat. owlcats crpgs took me a little bit to adjust to but once i got the hang of it i enjoy it lol.

  7. Lord Spell&Shield, you have my respect for using the correct date format ;). Do you live in a European country?

  8. I've seen a lot of posted reviews yesterday. The essence is that the main criticism is about the game not being a true Dragon Age game like the original and Inquisition. They complain that only 3 events in prior games are transferred to Veilguard. They miss the strategic fighting with a party of 4. They say Veilguard is an action game like God of War.

Some have mentioned the woke parts, but most haven't focused on that.

The more positive reviews say the story is very good, the combat and skill building is fun. Some say the combat can become a bit repetitive, but that happens to most games. Almost everybody praise the nature graphics quality. Some don't like the character models feeling they're a bit cartoonish, but quite a few said you get used to it. Some miss the darkness of Dragon Age and others miss the open world of Inquisition.

To make a conclusion it seems that if you want a game who feels like Dragon Age or Inquisition you will be disappointed. However, if you take the game for what it is, i. e. an independent action oriented story based game set in the Dragon Age world of Thedas you will be in for a treat.

Personally I've forgotten what I did in DA, DA2 and Inquisition so I don't mind only 3 events are transferred over. I don't even remember how my inquisitor looks like. I really like games like God Of War so I think I will have fun with Veilguard.

I think it's not fair to review a game and call a game bad just because it doesn't fulfill your personal expectations. A reviewer should be able to evaluate the game based on how different players would feel playing it. E. g. it would be bad if a reviewer gave Baldur's Gate 3 a 6/10 just because he didn't like turn based combat when the rest of the game was awesome.

A game can be good if it's good at what it's intended to be good at. You can be disappointed in the direction the game took, but the game can still be good for those who don't mind that. Some games are just bad for all players like the Gollum game. Veilguard will be great for some and bad for others.

I therefore think we will get a spread in scores for Veilguard from 4/10 to 10/10. What really matters is what YOU like and purchase should be based on that and not because others say the game is good or bad. I saw enough of the gameplay yesterday that satisfied my expectations of Veilguard so I purchased it today. I don't expect a masterpiece like Baldur's Gate 3, but I expect to have a lot of fun with it.

  9. It seems like they just went further into the direction on Inquisition and it that game just ended up not being for me. So for me, I'll be sitting this one out as I can tell I'm not the intended audience. It's probably healthy to not be so attached to studios/series and be willing to move on from them when the time comes. Have other games to look forward to, main one being Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

  10. EA was handing cash, or bags full of goodies recycled trash for these reviews.

These companies/ journalists believe we gamers are idiots.

  11. I have always enjoyed Mortismal reviews and he was always a trusted reviewer for me but this one review has broken any trust I had in him. There is a saying that it takes a lifetime to build trust but a second to break it. Such a shame. Good vid as always.

  12. hi s&s. the game isn't out yet to know if it is truly bad or good. i will look at wolfheartfps' and slandered's gameplay, see what they and you say about the game, then if all of you like it, I might buy the game. veilguard doesn't really look like a good game to play. i hope i'm wrong.

  13. Mort showed his face with this one
Game is clearly mediocore at best and dude tried too sell it hard.Sad day indeed.

  14. Mass Effect needs to go back to drawing room and have a serious talk about whether the game needs woke agenda or not. Just go back to male/female and remove all the other stuff and leave that for mods. How can you seriously think that gamers, who are predominately straight, be forced into a game where it is very LGBTQ+ friendly and be ok with this forced lifestyle. If you feel your game is excellent ala BG3 and can be super woke and get away with it then go for it. Otherwise your gonna go bankrupt over something that should be simply a mod you add.

  15. ShillUp being the honest and balanced reviewer was NOT on my Bingo card, I have to say that I'm extremelly impressed.

Also – is there anybody who hasn't made their peace with Mass Effect at this point? It was dead ever since ME 3's ending, I love the series but I don't want it back EVER, not unless the IP changes studios and they retcon ME3 ending straight away.

  16. I want to put here what I put in another channel, which are my thoughts 😂.

Something that I liked a lot from Matty and Skill up Reviews is that their analysis were very complete, they spoke about everything, while showing examples of each thing they were describing for good and for bad.

They talked about everything I wanted to know and more.

Mortismal review, while it wasn't bad, it was mostly focused on gameplay and nothing else. His review wasn't very deep at all.

There were also some things that he mentioned as good or as no problem at all while for me were important red flags.

If you analyze their Reviews, tho, you can see that they're saying similar things, it's just Mortismal dismiss some of the red flags as nuisances, and he technically says, it's an Action RPG, it's what it is, and it is good.

It all depends on what you are seeking of Dragon Age, an Action game that lacks quality in writing and story telling compared to its predecessors is not what I, personally, seek of Dragon Age.

  17. I bow to your wisdom my Lord, you were right about one I was SURE would be neutral to negative. The rest, well, except for the obvious Cult Of BioWare shills I was surprised by several. The footage that's new absolutely cements my decision to never buy this or another BioWare game again.

I'm so sad. I REALLY hoped I was wrong about this game, but I was actually more right than I thought.

  18. I swear I hate yall. Yall see 2 negative reviews oh these gotta be real, but when yall see positive reviews. Oh there fake or something is fishy this shit weak man

  19. Mr patty surprised me but yall gotta remember it’s all opinions man you’ll never know to you try it yourself their is also people who liked it

  20. Skill Up genuinely provides some of the most balanced, comprehensive reviews without all of the noise and associated political stuff — I’m not saying that’s not important, but that’s just not his channel.

And when he brought the receipts, it confirmed my very worst fears. This is an insulting, infantilizing game. And it won’t get a penny of my money or minute of my time.

I have too many fond memories of origins, awakening, and DA2 — and even inquisition looks like a masterpiece next to this

  21. Yeah same, I was amazed at Mortismal's review …he's been normally pretty well balanced and pretty rational, but not here. The fact that reviews are so divided means this is nothing close to a perfect game of the year. Whether you like it or not, there is a LOT to criticise about it. His review has made me lose quite a lot of trust in him.

  22. I guess I'll get the story vicariously through your playthrough. I for one have had enough of this crap.

  23. This is one of those times where being right doesn't feel good. I never understood how so many people don't seem to get that the people who made Bioware great are all long gone. I know S&S here has talked about it, and so most of the people reading this understand that, but the gaming masses? Bioware, Rocksteady, Bethesda, even CDPR and Obsidian, those are just companies. Not all of those examples are "lost", mind you, but they are companies, and it's people that make games.

When those people move on, for one reason for another, and the replacements are all untested, inexperienced, and (maybe partly because of that, for some of them) afraid of being hauled off to HR for some "microaggression" nonsense because they dared to say something needed to be fixed or improved, they can't do their best work, or even improve. It's a recipe for failure.

That's why I'm so down on AAA gaming these last few years. They've created the conditions for their own demise, and that's why I'm not sorry about it, but I am sad and disappointed, because it didn't have to be this way.

  24. Sorry I won't be buying any woke nonsense. Already going to be spending my money on YS X Nordics. I am excited for these games:
    1. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
    2. Stalker 3
    3. Crimson Desert
    4. Avowed
I am not loyal to californian liberal slop. Stop buying propaganda from radical left wing groups who want their fantasy games to have characters that break the 4th wall. They HATE you. Stop supporting them.
The other games Spell and Shield mentioned are also other ones I am excited for. But there is a small chance these guys bend the knee for the ESG money.
I await your review. I knew this was going to be a hack n Slash action game in linear environment. So it wasn't going to be a traditional PC CRPG.

  25. As I said a lot to others, The gaming community is split, millennials and then the now older gamers such as myself. We prefer harder, gritty, more heavier styled gaming in our RPGs (dragon age origins ME series, KOTR, morrowind, etc) and the younger gen prefer fast paced bright and Pixar/marvel like games such as overwatch. As time goes on though I feel we will eventually be forgotten about and games that we love will become a thing of the past. And that’s painful for me to say. I truly wish we remained a niche hobby since anytime something becomes mainstream, it corrodes
